We discuss the effects of the δ2 and Lubkin acceleration methods on the partial sums of Fourier Series. We construct continuous, even Hölder continuous functions, for which these acceleration methods fail to give convergence. The constructed functions include some interesting trigonometric series whose properties were investigated by Hardy and Littlewood.

In his 1986 paper in the Rev. Mat. Iberoamericana, A. Carbery proved that a singular integral operator is of weak type (p, p) on Lp(Rn) if its lacunary pieces satisfy a certain regularity condition. In this paper we prove that Carbery’s result is sharp in a certain sense. We also obtain a weighted analogue of Carbery’s result. Some applications of our results are also given.

We give a new characterization of character-automorphic Hardy spaces of order 2 and of their contractive multipliers in terms of de Branges Rovnyak spaces. Keys tools in our arguments are analytic extension and a factorization result for matrix-valued analytic functions due to Leech.
